What’s Next for GLC

On Wednesday, May 13 City Council voted to move management of the $5 million in Improve Our Tulsa Funds 3 funding for the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan from Partner Tulsa to the Tulsa Economic Development Corporation (TEDC Creative Capital). The Greenwood Legacy Corporation (GLC) is thankful for residents and partners who showed up to speak in support of protecting the funds for the intended purpose of the master plan. We are grateful that City Council voted to prioritize funding for the master plan and GLC is committed to ensuring the funds are used for plan.

What does this mean for GLC, a community development corporation? It means that we have an additional partner in this work with Rose Washington and TEDC. Rose and her team have done quality development work in North Tulsa and we look forward to working with TEDC, TDA, Partner Tulsa, the City of Tulsa and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality.

Our current phase includes Feasibility Studies and developing a Council of Elders to guide our work. GLC invites the public to nominate respected community elders to serve on our Council of Elders. Nominations are open through Saturday, May 30, nominate someone here.

Why Now?

After more than a century of disinvestment and displacement, the Greenwood community stands at a pivotal moment of renewal. Greenwood Legacy Corporation was established to ensure that the next chapter of development in Kirkpatrick Heights and Greenwood is shaped by the people who call it home.

Lead the Future of Greenwood Legacy

Greenwood Legacy Corporation (GLC) is excited to reach a new milestone in our organization – expansion of the Board of Directors. In addition to the current five board members, it is time to expand and add six more members: one representative from the Elders’ Council, one representative from the forthcoming Resident Council, and four additional board members from our community.

 

Who Should Apply:

We want folks who are committed to Greenwood’s Legacy and the full implementation of the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan. We want leaders with integrity and a collaborative mindset. We need Tulsans who are residents or business owners in areas throughout North Tulsa or have experience in community development, nonprofit governance, finance, or law.

What it Means to be a Board Member?

The Board sets organizational policy, oversees organizational development, and ensures accountability in accordance with the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan. GLC truly wants community participation and ask that you share with anyone who might be a fit to help Greenwood Legacy Corporation as we continue to make progress on the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master plan – especially moving from input to action to preparing for development!

Application Process:

Applications are open through Sunday, July 5 and members of the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan Community Workgroup, originally the Leadership Committee, will screen and interview applicants, presenting the finalists to the GLC’s board of directors.
